Starting a New Account When You Already Have One
Updated
If you have worked on Dwelling Blocks before — with a previous company, or under an older account — and are now joining a new company or setting up your own, there are two things to do, in this order.
1. Make sure the old account is not active
An account that stays active keeps receiving offers and notifications, and lenders keep seeing it on their panels. Close it off first:
- Ask the previous administrator to remove you from their account. Only an administrator at that company can do it.
- If you still have access and there is no administrator to ask, sign in to the old account and switch Available for assignments off on your profile details page.
Both are explained in Deactivating or Removing an Account. Finish any open assignments there before you leave — pending payments are still paid through Stripe.
2. Sign up from your new invitation
Use the invitation your new company sent you, or request access if you are setting the company up yourself — see How to Sign Up for Dwelling Blocks. Sign up as a new user rather than trying to reuse the old account — the old one belongs to the previous company.
If the invitation link has expired, you do not need a new one. See How To Set Your Password If Your Invite Link Expired.
If your email address is already in use
An email address can belong to only one account. For privacy, Dwelling Blocks does not tell you whether an address is already in use, so check it yourself before you sign up: go to the login page and try to sign in with it, or click Forgot Password? and enter it. If you can sign in, or a reset email arrives, the address is still on an account — most likely the old company's. Free it up first:
- Log in to the old account.
- Change its email to a different address. See Instructions for Changing Your Email Address.
- If you are joining a company that already uses Dwelling Blocks, ask its administrator to invite you with the address you want to keep. If you are setting up your own company, request access with it instead — the invitation usually arrives within 48 hours.
Or simply sign up with a different email address and leave the old account as it is.
What support cannot do
For security and privacy reasons, Dwelling Blocks support cannot move a profile from one company to another, rename a company, remove its users, or change an email address for you. The old account has its own users, history and payments with the lender, so it stays with the previous company. Every step above is one you, or an administrator at the company, can take.
Then finish setting up
Once you are in, work through the Getting Started Checklist — profile, license, insurance, coverage, and the bank account for payouts — so lenders can start sending you work. If anything from the old account seems to be getting in the way, contact support.
